Upcoming Events
This Pride Month’s public programs arrive in the face of increasing challenges targeting the LGBTQ+ community and people living with HIV/AIDS. Please join us throughout June to celebrate the vibrant resilience of our community and honor the history, activism, and lives that paved the way for us, with these amazing, free, open-to-the-public events:
Opening: Oscar Tuazon: Eternal Flame for Scott Burton
Saturday, June 20, 3 PM, NYC AIDS Memorial
The New York City AIDS Memorial will celebrate the public debut of a major new contemporary art installation: Eternal Flame for Scott Burton by acclaimed artist Oscar Tuazon. This important public artwork serves as both an homage and a living dialogue, honoring the legacy of artist Scott Burton, whose public works balanced avant-garde art with functional civic space before his death from AIDS-related complications in 1989. Tuazon’s sculpture offers a powerful visual testament to memory, survival, and the enduring impact of the generations of artists lost to the epidemic.
Special Event: Pride Open House
Saturday, June 20, 4—9 PM, NYC AIDS Memorial
Right after the sculpture unveiling, we are turning the park into a sanctuary of radical joy, art, and community, featuring the debut of a stunning new floral installation by Devin Antheus and Harry James Hanson. We are honoring our history and fueling the fight ahead with show-stopping performances by drag legends Barbara Herr, Egyptt LaBeija, and Simone, and an incredible DJ lineup featuring Alyssa Brianna, DJ Nikki Jax, Astor Lux b2b Spencer De Paz, all leading up to a spectacular closing set by headliner Eli Escobar. This event is free, all-ages, and open to all!
