NIGHT

WORLD AIDS DAY: THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1, 5-7 PM

Starting at 5 PM and running throughout the remainder of the day’s observances, the New York City AIDS Memorial has partnered with Queer Soup Night (QSN), a volunteer-run organization founded to strengthen local queer communities across the country, to serve hot soup for World AIDS Day event attendees.

Featuring creations by leading LGBTQ+ New York-based chefs Telly Justice (HAGS), Tony Ortiz (Chile con Miel), and Woldy Reyes (Woldy Kusina), QSN will help us create community through sharing space, sharing food, and contributing to something bigger than ourselves.

ABOUT THE CHEFS:

Chef Telly Justice is a proud Trans Woman who has been working in the food industry for over a decade and a half. After having worked at all levels of dining- from anarchist vegan cafes to Michelin-starred restaurants- Telly has devised a food philosophy that puts people and relationships first, ego last. Expect deliciousness, thoughtfulness, and intentionality, Queerness, and fun as the key touchstones of her menus. Her flagship restaurant HAGS in the heart of the East Village oscillates between serving flamboyant and outrageous tasting menus as well as fun and inclusive Pay What You Can meals. Neither menu styles are to be missed!

Tony Ortiz is a New York City-based culinary artist and storyteller. They run Chile Con Miel, a platform and brand that explores ancestral Mexican food practices through a queer lens. They create dishes that present seasonal cuisine with California energy and New York edge. Using multimedia, Tony explores the ways in which food shapes our individual identities and affects us culturally and psychologically.

Woldy Reyes is a Filipino-American chef born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. His passion for food ignited when his grandmother began teaching him traditional Filipino styles of cooking as a child. Today, Woldy focuses on modernizing Filipino dishes by using local and seasonal ingredients. He writes: "I am a lover of food and wanted to celebrate sharing my roots with people. I love that food educates and connects people."
